Ruff! Ruff! Rodeo Dogs are Tough
Hello folks!
I am not a “rodeo dog,” my Momma says, but I do know about them. They are great at herding, which is why they are rockstars with the rodeo. According to the AKC, herding breeds share an instinctual ability to control the movement of other animals and were developed to gather, herd and protect livestock. There isn’t just one breed, there are several types of herding dogs that go to the rodeo, including Collies, Australian Shepherds, Sheepdogs and more.
One, in particular, is truly a cattle dog… Its name is the Australian Cattle Dog. These intelligent and brave pups are pretty cool. The compact and muscular dogs are also known as Blue Heelers and Queensland Heelers and are related to Australia’s Dingo. Their coats are uniquely colored, they have boundless energy and can outsmart their owners. They are not only good at herding but also hunting and protecting.
They may be smaller, but they have big hearts. You may just see some at this years Franklin Rodeo, which is taking place this month and will be fun for everyone. Maybe I can sneak in and meet the bulls… I snort like a bull, and my Momma calls me a “bully boy,” so I might just blend in. We will see…
Wiggle butts and slobbery smooches!
