With the holiday season upon us and decorative styling a hobby for many, there are many ways to elevate your home for Thanksgiving. Whether you are looking to add warmth or need a few creative ways to display your fall feast, here are functional design tips that can make your holiday space one to remember!

Refresh with a new Rug: To dramatically, yet easily, update your dining area for an upcoming holiday, such as Thanksgiving, consider swapping out the rug within the space for a fresh, seasonal look. For my Thanksgiving table this year, I opted for a natural, textured jute rug with a diamond design that instantly warmed up the space.

Tablescape Horizontally: Ditch the traditional table runner styled vertically down the center of your table and double up on color and texture by styling horizontally. For a table that seats up to seven, you should use two to three table runners and can find great options at HomeGoods in-stores and online for under twenty dollars with modern designs and added elements like tassels.

Set the Mood with Metallics: Metallics are super on trend right now and something I love to use, especially around the holidays, because it works for any style from traditional to bohemian coastal, like my new home. I used gold decorative accents and tableware throughout my Thanksgiving tablescape, all from HomeGoods, including matte gold flatware, white ceramic plates with a gold rim, “thankful” gold napkin rings and festive gold candlesticks and turkeys to further set the holiday mood.

Weave in Woven Textures: To complement metallic accents, add texture to your tablescape with placemats. It is also functional to carve your turkey on and can be used for many other occasions throughout the holiday season.

Extend your Design: Elements of a Thanksgiving tablescape can be more than just the décor; extend the design to the food served by incorporating colorful casserole dishes and festive serving ware to cook and display your Thanksgiving meal. By adding a few harvest-inspired ceramic serving sets from HomeGoods, such as this unique pumpkin-shaped deep dish, I was able to finish off the table with a few wow-worthy pops of color.

Bonus tip: Use left-over pampas grass and dried botanicals from your flower arrangement as a creative cake topper on your desserts. I bought a plain, white frosted cake from my local supermarket and made it festive with pieces of pampas grass and faux florals I found at HomeGoods.

Create a Cascading Seasonal Scene: Don’t forget to decorate the area around your Thanksgiving table! You can repurpose faux gourds and pumpkins you already have from previous years by mixing and matching with a few new ones on a fireplace mantle or even cascading from within your fireplace (if you don’t plan on using it). Add a seasonal wheat and barley wreath to the door using adhesive, outdoor-friendly hooks.

 

Make the space functional by adding seating like a textured weather-proof pouf or woven side table that can also serve as a display for additional décor.

 

Add festive flair with a fall welcome mat! Layer a sturdy coir door mat on top of a woven outdoor rug for an inviting and warm look.
