With Mandy Garland, FirstBank

It’s rare to find someone who can claim to be a native of Williamson County, but we are lucky enough to have several folks that fit that bill here at FirstBank. This means our customers can work with someone familiar with the community’s history, progress, businesses, and schools.

FirstBank’s own, Will Powell, was born in the old hospital that everyone now knows as the place to renew your car tags.

After graduating from Ole Miss, Will began his banking career as a teller at the former Cadence Bank. From there, he moved on to Franklin Synergy Bank, where he learned from some Williamson County banking fixtures – Jody Bowman and Jere Pewitt. Will credits the two of them with teaching him the lending ropes in Williamson County. He worked his way up through the various ranks, making him very good at taking care of the customer. So when FirstBank acquired Franklin Synergy in August 2020, Will was the natural fit to become FirstBank’s Williamson County President.

Will believes that banking, at its most simple level, is nothing but a people business. “We are here to serve our community and the people that live within. If we do our job well, then anytime someone thinks of finances, they think of FirstBank and how we might be able to help them get to where they want to be in life.”

When asked what he loves most about his job, Will doesn’t hesitate to say it’s the opportunity to meet or talk to new people every day. He loves to hear everyone’s story on where they were born and raised, where they have been, and what brought them to Williamson County. He takes a genuine interest in the people he meets.

In addition to banking, Will enjoys travel, exercise, and reading.  Combining travel and exercise is the best of both worlds. He most recently scaled Angels Landing in Zion National Park (Utah) and has the pictures to prove it.
